My 12 News Today “Red Carpet Recap” – Golden Globes 2014
Yesterday very-early morning I had the exciting privilege to appear on 12 News Today as a "Fashion Expert" and discuss my Best + Worst dressed from Sunday nights 71st annual Golden Globe Awards!
In case you missed the segment, I recorded it just for you!
I'm wearing: Blouse (Nordstrom) | Pencil Skirt (Nordstrom) | Gold Heels (Shoe Dazzle) | Gold Earrings (Michael Kors) | Coral Necklace (Nordstrom) | Gold Watch (Michael Kors) | Nail Polish (Westside)
Now, let's recap. Fashion is, as always, subjective but in my opinion the Golden Globes red carpet really was, for the most part, underwhelming. These stars have access to the most exquisitely designed garments in the world and most of their Sunday night choices were subpar? Please explain this to me.
Let's start with who I thought missed the mark...
WORST Dressed
Hayden Panettiere wearing Tom Ford: Apparently, Tom Ford didn't actually dress Hayden for the Golden Globes, she went out and purchased this "gown" off the rack. Great. Like I mentioned in the video, this dress is fab + very on-trend. I would purchase this dress in a second and wear it this summer. It's not however, red carpet worthy. The addition of the broach... why? And the slicked back hair only solidifies my impression that she stumbled off the beach, into this dress and onto the red carpet. I don't understand any of this.
Paula Patton wearing Stéphane Rolland Couture: Paula, I truly applaud your bold, confident and risky attempt to rock a dress of this magnitude on a red carpet. The risk however, did not pay off. If this dress was better tailored (longer), styled (with a metallic sandal vs. a platform heel) or if the red carpet was hosted by The Costume Institute (at the MET) - you might've pulled this off.
Lena Dunham wearing Zac Posen: There are so many other dresses on the red carpet that would've better suited Lena. I looove that she wants to wear a Zac Posen ballgown but this dress didn't do her any favors. You need to have a very specific shape to pull a design like this off; there are supermodels that can't wear this dress because in order to wear a head-turning, bright yellow, Zac Posen ballgown, the dress better fit like a glove! Otherwise, the dress will always wear you and all of the eyes that you've commanded to see you, will only be left confused and disappointed.
And now the accolades...
BEST Dressed
Margot Robbie wearing Gucci: This custom gown was specially made for Margot, so of course the tailoring is immaculate. The subtle jewelry, make-up and updo are perfect. The emerald Louboutins perfectly compliment the embellishments adorning the dress. Absolutely gorgeous.
Cate Blanchett wearing Armani Privé: Stunning. Feminine. Sophisticated. Chic. Elegant. Regal. The hair, makeup & Chopard jewels are phenomenal. The great Cate!
Lupita Nyong'o wearing Ralph Lauren: Hello, Golden Globes debut?! Lupita has already outdone herself. The color of this dress against her beautiful skin tone, the subtle jewelry, the CAPE!? A million times: WOW! Speechless, showstopping perfection!
Tell me, who stole the show for you and who left you wanting more?
